Designed for the youngest learners, this introductory course will cover the basics of chemistry, biology, astronomy, earth science, and physics. This exciting class is hands on as students learn to apply the scientific method to their everyday lives. Students will spend the year creating fun and educational science projects to explore the natural world. Examples of projects may include sculpting animals out of homemade clay, creating your own solar system, and building bottle rockets. These exciting projects will ignite a deep curiosity and interest for science in young minds.

This exciting course engages students in activities that build a strong science foundation. Students will explore and experience a variety of areas within the field of Life Science. We’ll study microscopic life, cell biology, and ecology. We’ll learn how birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and mammals meet their energy requirements and how they interact and communicate. This class emphasizes the use of the scientific method with scientific inquiry, questioning, observations, and
measurement being the focus. These engaging first hand experiences will help to instill students with a lifelong love of science and a greater curiosity for the world around us.

Grades: 4-6
Cost: $450
Meeting times: Mondays 8:15 pm - 9:45 pm ET (section 1)
Tuesdays 11:30 am - 1 pm ET (section 2)
This course investigates life science through an exciting and engaging curriculum. Some of the topics we will explore are the chemical building blocks of life, structure and function of cells, diversity of life, classification of living organisms, genetics, ecosystems, and the major systems of the human body. Interactive learning is at the heart of this course as students engage in classroom discussions, hands-on activities, and at-home lab experiments. While we are studying the scientific method, we will be discussing current examples of how scientists use this method in the real world. Students will discover, perform, and evaluate scientific investigations and learn how to communicate their results. Through the year, students will develop a lasting appreciation and enthusiasm for the life sciences.

Cost: $500
Meeting times: Mondays 11:30 am - 1 pm ET (section 1)
Tuesdays 8:15 pm - 9:45 pm ET (section 2)
This course examines the concepts of matter and energy. The study of the basic components that matter is made of and different forms of energy that make things move and change will be the framework for our year. We’ll combine real-world application through labs, engaging discussions, collaborative projects, and simulations, to deepen students observational and investigational skills. Topics include atomic theory, energy, force fields, measurements and units, chemical and physical properties of substances, Newton’s laws of motion, chemical reactions, electromagnetic radiation, electricity, and magnetism.
